Artist: a person engaged in one or more of any of a broad spectrum of activities related to creating art.

That definition makes art seem so stale and dry.  Which is why Charmaine Olivia is seriously a refreshing breath of air in the world of art and really does put that definition to shame.

There’s 2 key attributes, in my opinion, which seem to make Charmaine stick out, - her work is a combination of realism which delves into a sense of pure surrealism mixing you up in the image leaving you intrigued and staring for hours.

She’s an artist in it’s purest form, in touch with her inner energies - as well as the ability to take you into a place of pure serenity and surrealism.

Her influences and interests are reflected in her pieces whether it be through her silhouettes or oil paintings - check out her blog.  She’s definitely not in it for the hype or fame even though she is well worthy of it.

Due to exhibit her artwork at the Shooting Gallery of San Fransisco in January, be sure to check it out if you’re in the area.

If not jump online and take a squiz at her online shop.

Much Respect for Charmaine, you’ve got style.

Stanley Kubrick was always destined for success behind a lens.

Considering most of these pictures were taking in the 1940s at the time of his early man-hood, it’s evident that his style was one that would be admired and imitated by many trying to follow in his footsteps.

Each and every single one offers this amazing vibe of mystery, outstanding aura and a hint of drama.

It’s hard to find directors these days which produce movies with such strong meaning and symbolisation in them..

The summer is here, or the winter depending on where you are.  Since the festive season is over - we have the New Year to look forward to.

In step: The Maccabees (UK) new video for the track Pelican.  It’s an epic journey of thoughts and symbolisations that are purely subjective to the viewer, but one in which I feel ties in pretty damn well with the New Year, new beginnings, new lessons to be learned and dreams to be lived.

As I’ve said before, it’s always refreshing to see music videos that manage to actually have an impact on people without all of the synthetic garbage.  Even if it is for only a few minutes of our daily lives.

BIG UP to talented and diverse director, David Wilson!

Mesmerising in every way, shape and form.

The Rock Restaurant is an absolute one of a kind experience with mouth watering seafood offered for lunch and dinner.

Located just off the shore of the Michanwi Pingwe beach in Zanzibar, Africa this awesome little restaurant can only seat 14 which is bound to keep the vibes positive and chilled to enjoy the best possible dining you may have ever had.

The view from the restaurant is undeniably breathtaking and is probably the best testament to the saying, ‘money can’t buy you everything’.

Thank god live in a time where locations and experiences like these can be shared with the people around the globe.

Wow.  Rip Curl has absolutely killed it with this new clip ‘Mirage - The Full Experience’

Shot using 30 GoPro HD cameras whilst some of the best surfers including Mick Fanning, Matt Wilkinson and Dean Brady bust it out on some of the smoothest lines possible.

Other than the fact that they are all legends in their own right - they also rock the new Mirage boardshorts.  So yes, this is clip is to promote the ‘Mirage’ boardies.

An awesome clip for exactly the right vibe of the boardies.  Agreed - it works perfectly.

I Believe I Can Fly directed by Sebastien Montaz-Rosset.

Ever since Philippe Petit dance across the NYC skyline in 1974 slack lining has been on the rise around the world.

Now fast forward to 2011 and we get a look into the world of slacklining by, funnily enough, some more crazy frenchmen that simply live for adrenaline and the ability to push the boundaries of both mental and physical capabilities.

Although I posted about this a while back, I thought since the official documentary is about to come out on 11.11.11 (in a few days); it’s time to refresh and check out this trailer before the real deal.

Too many times we see people tend to react differently to someone who has lived through the unfortunate and unlucky occurrence of losing a limb.

There are also too many times when you can’t help but second glance over at someones prosthetic limb which tend to look so damn plain, old, retro and impersonal.

That’s why Bespoke Innovations is the next level in terms of prosthetic legs.  AS well as offering standard designs Bespoke allows you to design your very own customised and purely unique leg in collaboration with one of the team designers.

It makes it personal.  Connecting with the person directly, in a manner that no other prosthetic limbs have - by emotionally connecting and in turn wearing them as a form or self expression.

Bottom line is, we are all human beings.

Life in a Day.  Shot by You.

A lot has happened since the last post here, whether it be in relation to political, environmental or social matters - both around the world or on a personal level.  And ‘a lot’ is an understatement.

This is by no means a platform to debate the rights and wrongs of actions undertaken by few or many - but simply a space to shed light on some of the refreshing ideas and creations by us for stale moments for us.

Which is why LIFE IN A DAY is so relevant to the world we live in today and all the happenings that occur every single minute, hour, day, week, month and year.

The beauty of Life in a Day is that the director, Kevin MacDonald, has been able to capture what it really feels like to live on Earth - the highs and lows the anger and sorrows.

Take a moment of your time and glimpse at the lives we lead and be thankful, you have one.

Nike x Livestrong collaboration.
I’ve always said collaborations can be the best way to get out a message, product and the positioning of what each label stands for.
The Livestrong wristband made its debut in 2004 and has since sold over 80 million bands around the world with a further $80 million towards fundraising.
Now what better way than to team up with Nike to push the success and awareness a few steps further!
In recognition, Nike has just dropped a Holiday season collection of footwear and apparel.  Footwear includes, Trainer 1.3 Mid, Woodside and of course the Lunarglide+ 3 (pictured here).
Will be sold at select retailers only.  Check it out here.

MESA - the hyper-realistic stylist of street art from Spain.
Definitely a style that is rarely seen in street art but doesn’t shy away from controversial and defying subjects.
Most pieces work in conjunction with the scenery adding a certain value and extra perspective to the work.  What you see is NOT unimportant - the canvas is the backdrop which he expresses as being equally important to the piece.

Defy, The Danny Harf Project Trailer.

Legendary Danny Harf’s work in progress with Sean Kilgus, of over 3 years to track, shoot and compile some of the best wakeboarders doing some of the craziest stunts has finally paid off..

We’ve always been able to watch ski, snowboard and surf videos over the past couple of decades - but its only in the past decade that the films have become something that you’d expect to see made in hollywood.

Much like The Art of Flight by the guys over at Brain Farm - the quality of the riders and producing is simply outstanding.  Can’t wait to see the finished version.

One of the best uses of the internet and social media is that we get a taste of things as soon as they happen.
