Planet Rock - The Story of Hip Hop and the Crack Generation.

The name of this documentary which was recently aired on VH1 is self-descriptive.  Produced and narrated by Ice-T, it delves in to the 80’s and 90’s when hip hop as we know it today was born.

Although it wasn’t always beats and bling - for a long time some of the biggest names in hip hop struggled to find their feet encountering problem after problem growing up in impoverished hoods essentially resulting in many having to deal to make it big.

Musicians have always been associated with drugs and crazy lifestyles, but this is a whole different story.  A story of a culture, a society, a civilisation that was almost consumed by drugs, but managed to break through.

For the ones that beat it and succeeded and have lived to tell the story in their own words, looking back at it now enforces the fact that - we should never forget where we have come from and been through.

It is our experiences of the past that shape us into the future.
